Culture and history
The permanent exhibition at the Muzeum Šumavy Železná Ruda focuses on rare examples of the local glass industry. The museum is located in a villa that Krištof Abele had built in 1877, and its permanent exhibition also includes a section on ironworking and the hammer mills of the Bohemian Forest.
The Environmentální centrum Železná Ruda presents the fauna and flora of the Bohemian Forest. It also features exhibitions on the geology and geomorphology of the Bohemian Forest.
At the Kostel Panny Marie Pomocné z Hvězdy church in Železná Ruda, guided tours with explanations can be arranged by telephone from 1 June to 30 September.
Nature and landscape
The Jezero Laka glacial lake is the smallest, shallowest and highest-altitude glacial lake in the Bohemian Forest.
From Železná Ruda, a route maintained for pedestrian traffic in winter initially follows the blue trail markings and then the red trail markings to Čertovo jezero.
Getting around
Železná Ruda centrum railway station is step-free in the station building and on all platforms.
On the signposted cycling loop from Železná Ruda via Špičák, the chairlift to the summit of Pancíř also carries bicycles.
