Svojšín: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Svojšín lies in the valley of the Mže, where the river has cut its way through predominantly wooded hills; in the lowlands, it is accompanied by meadows with diverse flora and fauna. Svojšín Castle was built in 1723 under Count Jan Václav Příchovský on the site of an older building.

Castle, Church and Monuments

The one-storey Svojšín Castle has a passage accessible through a stone portal, featuring preserved leather wallpaper and Baroque marble fireplaces. Two ornamental gardens adjoin the castle.

The Church of St Peter and Paul is dated to the mid-12th century based on its masonry technique using large sandstone blocks. It is considered one of the most significant monuments of its kind in south-western Bohemia.

The Chapel of St Nicholas near the railway station was restored from 2017 to 2023 at its original location and in its original form, based on surviving photographs.

The Jewish Cemetery in Řebří was declared a cultural monument in 2007. To this day, 143 gravestones remain there, including one from 1742.

Nature Trail and Viewpoints

The “Skalní defilé” nature trail starts at Svojšín Castle and is designed as a 3 km round trip. At its end, it offers a view of the Svojšín Basin and the meanders of the Mže.

The viewpoint on Tannenberg, at the cross marking the site of a former forest chapel, can be reached from Svojšín Castle via a 3 km round trip, initially following red and then green hiking trail markings.

Railway Station and the Mže

Svojšín railway station provides step-free access to the station building or passenger shelter and to all platforms. It is located on line 178 between Plzeň and Cheb and on line 186 between Svojšín and Bor.

In spring, the Mže can be navigated on the section from Pavlovice to Svojšín and, if conditions permit, further on to Stříbro.
