Ošelín stands out for its long history of settlement and architecture: Ošelín Fortress has been documented in writing since 1497, while the present-day building of Ošelín Castle dates approximately from the second half of the 18th century.
History and architectural heritage
Ošelín was first mentioned in 1379, when it belonged to the knight Oldřich of Ošelín. From 1380 to 1402, Oldřich of Ošelín was a co-patron of the church in Meclov. Before 1413, Ošelín came into the possession of Habart of Malenice and later of Petr the Younger Kovář of Strhaře.
The Bigatto family owned Ošelín Castle until 1935. In Ošelín, the Church of Saint Bartholomew has Gothic origins and was extensively remodelled in the Baroque style in 1722.
Routes
Cycle Route No. 2222 passes through Ošelín and Německý mlýn and forms part of a 41-km-long route. A route of approximately 15 km from Cebiv to Ošelín railway station runs mostly along marked hiking trails. From Ošelín railway station, the green hiking route No. 3607 also leads 1 km to the U Mže trail junction.
