Prostiboř: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Prostiboř showcases brick architecture from the late 19th century in its village conservation zone. Characteristic features include façades with rustication, half-storey attic spaces, and numerous openings in the gables.

Culture

The Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk was built in 1867 by residents of the municipality on the site of a former small chapel. The present chapel is a brick building in the Neo-Romanesque style, with a rectangular floor plan and a three-sided apse. Since 1993, a mass has been celebrated there on 16 May, the feast day of Saint John of Nepomuk.

The Gothic Church of Saint Nicholas was remodelled in the Baroque style in the nave; the tower was added in 1753–1756. Its furnishings include a bell from 1551 with a Czech inscription.

History

Prostiboř is first mentioned in the founding charter of Kladruby Monastery. Kopec Castle above Prostiboř had existed since the 14th century; in the 18th century, it was converted into a multi-storey chateau. Kopec Chateau is currently closed due to renovation work.

Landscape

Above the Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk stand two protected winter lindens, approximately 22 metres tall. Visitors to Prostiboř Chateau, also known as Kopec, first pass through undisturbed nature near Sedmihoří.

Pilgrimage Route

The northern route of the Way of Saint James runs from Kladruby via Prostiboř and Hostouň to Bělá nad Radbuzou.
