Stráž: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

West of Stráž lies the Nový hrad archaeological site near Stráž. The medieval complex has an irregular square layout, a partially water-filled moat, an elevated acropolis and a massive rampart. It is interpreted as a guard station or customs post dating from around the turn of the 12th and 13th centuries.

History and culture

On 23 August 1331, Stráž received a royal privilege that granted, among other things, a weekly market every Saturday. The defining landmark of Stráž’s silhouette is St. Wenceslas Church.

The Jewish cemetery near Stráž is one of the oldest Jewish cemeteries in Bohemia and is documented in written sources for the year 1450. It is enclosed by a stone wall; 21 gravestones, the pillars of the former gate and a pedestrian entrance have been preserved.

Nature and landscape

Established in 1980, Valcha Nature Park extends across the cadastral areas of Stráž u Tachova, Borek u Tachova, Bernartice u Stráže, Strachovice u Bernartic, Olešná and Bonětice. The nature park contains large granite blocks and rock formations created by frost weathering. Valcha Nature Park lies on the edge of the Valcha settlement along a yellow-marked trail towards Borek u Tachova.

Mount Přimda is located in the vicinity of Stráž. The Strážská hůrka hill (Stráž u Tachova) lies in the immediate vicinity of Stráž. In the wider regional surroundings of Stráž are the mountains Viči hora and Železný vrch.

The Sycherák leisure centre offers opportunities for swimming, camping and fishing. Stráž is connected to public bus and rail services.
