Kočov: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
South of Kočov in the Tachov region lies the ruins of the Baroque pilgrimage church of St. John the Baptist. It has been protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic since 1992. In 2000, the ruins were transformed into the “Cave of Hell” and used as a backdrop for the film Z pekla štěstí 2 by director Zdeněk Troška.
Culture and History
The historic built-up area of Kočov is classified as a significant archaeological site in category ÚAN I. The archaeological site in the historic built-up area is assigned to the periods of the Late Middle Ages and the Modern Period. The Kočov fortress grounds are listed as a currently protected archaeological element.
In the wider regional surroundings of Kočov are the Center of Europe monument, the historic site of Flossenbürg concentration camp, and Novy Dvur Monastery.
Events and Village Features
Every year, the municipality of Kočov organizes numerous events for children and adults. Kočov’s annual programme of events includes children’s days, a fancy-dress ball and Masopust, as well as a May Day parade, the burning of witches, a lantern parade, and a kite festival.
The village square is home to the Zvonička, a simple municipal bell tower. It consists of two wooden posts, supports a pyramid-shaped roof covered with wooden shingles, and has a bell suspended beneath the roof. The Zvonička is a valuable small example of village amenities from the second half of the 19th century.
Water and Landscape
The Mže 6 fishing area (FV Planá u Mariánských Lázní) is designated for 2025 and 2026 with a length of 16 km and an area of 16 ha. It extends from the weir at the Šturanický Mlýn mill in the cadastral area of Ošelín to the weir near the settlement of Ústí close to the municipality of Kočov.
Viči hora Mountain and Přimda Mountain are located in the vicinity of Kočov. Výška Hill [Lom u Tachova] is located in the immediate surroundings of Kočov. Pfaffenbühl Mountain is located in the wider regional surroundings of Kočov.
