Brewing Culture and Wellness

The cellars of Pivovar Chodovar, dating from the 14th century, are carved into granite and are still used for brewing beer today. One section of these cellars houses a small museum of the brewing industry, accessible through a 40-metre-long passage carved through solid rock. Pivovar Chodovar offers a guided tour including visits to the floor malt house, brewhouse and open fermentation room, as well as a beer tasting at the brewery well.

The beer spa in Chodová Planá features a bath with Ilsano mineral water, special dark bath beer and herbal extracts. The beer bath can be followed by classic massages or malt-based packs.

Culture and History

The Baroque Church of St John the Baptist in Chodová Planá was built between 1748 and 1754. The interior is decorated with frescoes by Eliáš Dollhopf. The château in Chodová Planá is a largely completely preserved historicist building; the château complex includes a café open to the public.

The Old Jewish Cemetery contains around 100 gravestones, most of them dating from the 18th and 19th centuries. The cemetery lies in the hilly grounds of the extensive château park of Chodová Planá. A Czech-German project restored the Old Jewish Cemetery; today, the well-maintained site once again attracts visitors.

The New Jewish Cemetery was established in 1890 and is one of the last surviving reminders of Jewish community life in Chodová Planá. It has a wrought-iron gate with Stars of David and is freely accessible. The programme of the St John’s festivities held in Chodová Planá included a beer barrel-rolling competition.

Nature and Activities

The area around the beer baths borders a château park. The château park has the character of a landscape park; several gentle hills are separated by small valleys with streams. The Chodovoplánská fitness trail in the park of Chodová Planá has eight exercise stations. Regent Pond in Chodová Planá was established in 1479.

A cycle path to Planá connects to the cycle path from Chodová Planá to Mariánské Lázně. Chodová Planá can be reached from Mariánské Lázně by direct train.
