Litohlavy: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The wooded, 441-metre-high Vršíček lies within the territory of Litohlavy. South of the village, the Baroque Chapel of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary stands on Vršíček. It was built between 1744 and 1747 in gratitude for Rokycany having been spared a plague epidemic.

Culture and History

The chapel can be reached from the east via a serpentine path laid out in 1890 or by a stone staircase. The main staircase has 77 steps; it is connected to an older straight stone staircase with 7 steps.

The Vršíčková pilgrimage in Litohlavy takes place on the first Sunday in July. Concerts at the chapel are among the traditional cultural and social events in Litohlavy. Another regular event is the traditional “Farewell to the Holidays”: it takes place once a year in August at the “Lomeček” public square and in the TJ Litohlavy z.s. sports complex.

The rural farmstead No. 11 in Litohlavy comprises a granary, an enclosure wall with a gate and wicket, a barn, and farm buildings.

Nature and Trails

The 9-kilometre Kokotské rybníky educational circular trail comprises 11 stops with information boards about the nature and history of the area around the ponds. The educational trail runs between Smědčice and Litohlavy northeast of Plzeň and is accessible on foot and by bicycle.

In the vicinity of Litohlavy, the Kokotské rybníky educational trail begins and ends at the swimming pool in Nová Huť near Dýšina; parking spaces are available there.

Cycling

A cycle tour described by the KČT leads from Rokycany railway station via Litohlavy towards Smědčice and to the Kokotské rybníky ponds. Cycle route No. 2153 runs through the northern part of Litohlavy to Smědčice. On the cycle tour described by the KČT, Litohlavy is designated as a refreshment stop.
