Kejnice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Kejnice is associated with a Marian pilgrimage that was resumed in 1939 and has been celebrated annually ever since. The local cultural history also includes the Chapel of the Virgin Mary with a memorial cross; it is listed as an immovable cultural monument. Inside, there is a folk Baroque altar as well as niches containing statues of Saint Sebastian and a bishop.
Culture and History
The history of Kejnice is associated with a deed of donation dated to 1045. According to this deed, the village was donated to Břevnov Monastery; today, the deed is considered a forgery. Another historical connection leads to Frymburk Castle: after it was destroyed in 1417, Kejnice was assigned to Rabí Castle.
Stráž Mountain southeast of the present-day municipality is also connected with Kejnice. The original wooden settlement associated with the locality was located there. Clearly recognisable remains of fields arranged in terraces have been identified on Stráž; medieval and early modern pottery fragments were found along a watercourse.
Landscape
Kejnice is considered part of the Šumava, a landscape designated as a protected landscape area. In the vicinity of Kejnice, in the Bavorovská pahorkatina uplands, there are wide views of the Šumava Mountains and the inland areas. The Otava flows near Kejnice; the river has always been one of the reasons for settlement in the region.
