Historic Villagescape

In Velké Hydčice, the historic village ensemble is arranged around a small, irregularly shaped and sloping village square. The historic ensemble on the village square includes a Neoclassical chapel. It also comprises gable-fronted farmsteads with gates, opposing granaries and stone boundary walls. The village’s built heritage includes buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries as well as contemporary structures dating from around the turn of the 20th century.

The “Usedlost č.p. 4” farmstead is a brick agricultural farmstead with a preserved Neoclassical gable. Velké Hydčice had already belonged to Břevnov Monastery in 1045.

Educational Trails and Protected Areas

The Velké Hydčice–Prácheň educational trail connects the village with the historic Prácheň hill. Using four information panels, the trail explains the historic landscape of Prácheň and the picturesque surroundings of the Otava. The second half of the Velké Hydčice–Prácheň educational trail passes through the Prácheň Nature Reserve. Public access there is permitted only on marked hiking trails.

The green-marked main circular route of the Velké Hydčice–Hejná–Nezamyslice educational trail begins in Velké Hydčice, leads via Hejná and Nezamyslice, and has seven information panels. The yellow-marked circular route around the Kozník and Pučanka elevations includes the Pučanka Nature Reserve.

The Otava and Trails

The Otava flows past Velké Hydčice and is used for water tourism. The public Velké Hydčice campsite is located on a meadow on the right bank of the Otava. There are marked cycling trails in the vicinity of the campsite. A railway line runs along the Otava near Velké Hydčice.
