Dešenice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Culture and History
The parish church Kostel sv. Mikuláše in Dešenice dates from the mid-14th century; its complex includes the church, gravestones, an enclosing wall, a Baroque gate, and a mortuary chapel.
Tvrz Dešenice was thoroughly renovated in the Baroque style in the mid-18th century without eliminating its Renaissance character. A brewery was later established in the Tvrz. The Muzeum šumavského pivovarnictví Dešenice is housed in the historic Tvrz Dešenice, which is also called a château, and provides insights into the history of brewing in the Šumava region. The museum also includes a reconstructed historic taproom.
Dešenice is one of six Czech municipalities participating, together with the Bavarian municipalities of Eschlkam, Lam, Neukirchen b.Hl.Blut, Arrach, and Lohberg, in the cross-border Kámen doteku project. The other Czech municipalities are Chudenín, Hamry, Nýrsko, Strážov, and Všeruby.
In Dešenice, Kámen doteku is located to the left of the entrance to Tvrz Dešenice, next to the statue of Saint John of Nepomuk in the fortress wall. The smoothly worked stone invites visitors to touch it.
