Žichovice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Žichovice lies on the right bank of the Otava River. Bridges and the château are part of the village’s character.

Culture and History

In the center of Žichovice stands the Chapel of Saint Aloysius. Before its consecration, it had stood unfinished for 40 years; it was consecrated on June 16, 1861.

The Baroque statue of Saint John of Nepomuk also tells the story of changes in the village. Originally, it stood on the bridge leading to the château. After the 1890 flood, it was placed in front of the bridge and later, in 1912, moved in front of the château.

Village Character

The stone Dolní Bridge is an old road bridge with two segmental arches. It crosses the stream on the road toward Rabí and probably dates back to the early 17th century.

The Horní Bridge is a partially preserved stone bridge with two arches and nearly semicircular vaults. It crosses the stream toward the České dráhy railway station. It was probably built in the 18th century; in the mid-20th century, it was supplemented by a modern structure.

Žichovice château is not open to the public, but it can at least be viewed from the château park. On the southern side of the north wing are the Baroque Žichovice sundials, which date from approximately 1888. They can be freely accessed from the path around the château.

Nature and Activities

Immediately beyond Žichovice, the Otavská cycling route follows an asphalt, traffic-free section along the river to the lime works near Velké Hydčice.

The return journey from the hiking route to Žichovice can be made by train.
