Klenová: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Klenová combines a historic castle and chateau complex with permanently displayed art, a sculpture park, and recurring exhibitions.
Castle and Chateau
The origins of Klenová Castle are dated to the second half of the 13th century. The castle moat has been preserved around almost the entire castle; in front of the chateau, it was filled in during the 1830s. In the 19th century, Count Joseph Philip Edward Stadion-Warthausen and Thannhausen had a chateau built in the area of Klenová’s southern fortifications. The western part of Klenová Chateau was designed in the Neo-Gothic style. The use of the Neo-Gothic style here is considered one of the earliest examples in Bohemia.
Art and Chapel
The permanent exhibition at Klenová Chateau presents Czech modern art from the gallery’s collection in four salons of the chateau. It also includes historic furniture and 19th-century interiors. In the grounds of Klenová Castle, the sculpture park features works by Vincenc Vingler, Jiří Seifert, Jaroslav Róna, Václav Fiala, Márius Kotrba, and Anton Čierny.
The “Stadionská” Chapel is notable in Bohemia for its preserved interior, which was not altered later. The restored chapel was reopened to visitors on April 1, 2017, as part of a guided tour with commentary. After the collapse, the area in question was transformed into a viewing terrace in the 19th century.
Exhibitions in the Granary
At the beginning of each exhibition season, the recurring “Cesta” exhibition in Klenová’s granary gives children space to present their work. At “Cesta,” visitors vote for one work; a professional jury of the gallery’s art historians and visual artists honors the best creators with gold, silver, and bronze palettes. Two recurring exhibitions take place in Klenová’s granary every year: “Contacts” in the first half of the year and the “START POINT PRIZE” in the second half of the year.
