Městišťské rokle was first designated as a nature reserve on 9 December 1994. The nature reserve protects the headwaters, peat bogs and riparian floodplain forests along the Jelenka stream and its tributaries. At the same time, it serves to preserve and restore natural forests and protect herbaceous plant communities in the parts of the area without forests.

Nature

The surrounding nature also shapes visits to the town: Městiště is mainly visited by cyclists. Můstek is a mountain in the vicinity of Městiště. Other mountains in the area include Pancíř, Javorná and Lovečná.

History

Denkcherzův hamr was in operation until 1975. Axes, hoes, ploughshares and other tools were made there from imported iron. Městiště was already marked on a map of the Výšinná trade route from Zwiesel to Klatovy around 1554. At that time, Městiště had farmsteads with associated arable land.

Region

Bayerwald-Tierpark Lohberg is located near Městiště. In the wider region are the “Frauenau, Glasmuseum” museum and the Neunussberg Castle Ruins archaeological site. Městiště also has a straightforward connection to Onen Svět.

Other Places

Another destination is Depoltice.
