Chotěšov: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Chotěšov Monastery is a national cultural monument and comprises a former convent rebuilt in the late Baroque style. It was founded at the beginning of the 13th century by Blessed Hroznata. Today, the monastery is open to the public and hosts guided tours, exhibitions and other cultural events.

Culture and History

Distinctive buildings and monuments in the townscape also recall the history of Chotěšov. The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary is one of the town’s important historic buildings. The column with the statue of Saint John of Nepomuk was erected in 1700 by Abbot and Provost Ondřej Fabritius. A restored statue of Saint John of Nepomuk was also relocated to a representative site near Chotěšov Monastery.

The Pilsen Region Firefighting Museum opened at Chotěšov Monastery in 2013. One of its most important exhibits is a restored and operational PS-6 Flader motor pump.

Festivals and Events

The Staročeské máje festival has been held in Chotěšov since 1967; it takes place approximately every two years. On the second day, the festival continues in the monastery garden with the Chodské kolečko and Špacírka dances, before concluding with the Česká beseda dance. Another regular event is the annual Běh Chotěšovem, a cross-country run for all age groups.

Trails and Landscape

Several hiking trails in the surroundings of Chotěšov lead to Křížový vrch, with its church and 22-metre-high observation tower. From the observation tower, there are views of the peaks of the Bohemian Forest, nearby Chotěšov with its monastery, and the town of Stod.

The two-kilometre circular trail Stezka kolem Křížového vrchu features educational and play elements about forest fauna and flora. Several stations with information boards along the trail lead to a former pilgrimage site with a church and an observation tower.

The walk to the weir on the Radbuza begins at Náměstí 1. máje and runs along Klášterní Street. You can choose either an upper path with views of the Radbuza river valley or a path along the mill race.

Waterways and Regional Landscape

In the surroundings of Chotěšov, Pinky includes the ponds Velký rybník, Malý rybník and Šindlerák. The area is used mainly for sport fishing and recreation. Its present-day landscape was formed as a result of coal mining at the Austria hard-coal mine and subsequent subsidence of rock and soil.

In the immediate vicinity of Chotěšov lies Jetelový vrch [Chotěšov-Hoříkovice], a landscape feature classified as a hill. Slepičí vrch [Dnešice-Černotín], also a landscape feature classified as a hill, is likewise located nearby. In the wider regional surroundings of Chotěšov are Běleč, a landscape feature classified as a mountain, and Radyně, likewise a landscape feature classified as a mountain. The Plzen Barholomaeus Cathedral, classified as a church, is also located there.
