Chomle: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

A monument in Chomle bears the names of 14 miners who lost their lives on 24 April 1937 in an explosion at the Ferdinand mine. When the Ferdinand mine flooded in 1937, water entered from an unmapped gallery connected to the Prkenka mine; 14 miners lost their lives in the incident.

Mining History

The Ferdinand mine was located behind Chomle in the direction of Vejvanov. In 1947, it was in operation and produced 2,000 tonnes of coal per month. The Uhelný hlubinný důl Prkénka includes an old wooden, prismatic structure above the shaft.

Church and Architecture

The chapel in Chomle is an architecturally significant building. Kostel sv. Markéty is a low, single-nave church from the second half of the 15th century, situated on a hill in the western part of Chomle. It had fallen into disrepair, had been cleared out, and was no longer used by the church.

In the presbytery of Kostel sv. Markéty, there is a small sanctuary in the form of a chapel with a canopy vault, carved from a single stone.

Paths and Landscape

The Chomle station on the Za přírodou a historií Radnicka educational trail provides information, using a panel with photographs of miners, about hard-coal mining in the surroundings of Chomle and Vejvanov over more than 400 years, from 1545 to 1980. The Za přírodou a historií Radnicka educational trail comprises three circular routes: Radnický, Hylákův, and Šternberský.

The Okruh Radnice circular route runs through the valley of the Chomelský potok to Chomle.
