Vračovice-Orlov: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Vračovice-Orlov can be explored through specific evidence of its history and the landscape in its surroundings. The village is home to the single-nave Church of St John the Baptist: its core is a Late Romanesque building structure dating from around the 13th century, which is listed as a cultural monument.

Culture and History

The church is a filial church of the Roman Catholic parish of České Heřmanice. Its complex is situated in a cemetery surrounded by a wall and includes a mortuary chapel from the first half of the 19th century. The cemetery also contains a grave commemorating victims of the Second World War: Harry Ward and James Hall, both soldiers in the British Army, as well as an unknown Russian soldier, are named.

Another listed cultural monument is rural house No. 2 in Vračovice. It documents the development of settlement architecture since the 16th century. It includes an old log room with a so-called smoke room (“dymná jizba”). As the main room, it had an open fireplace and smoke openings above the windows.

Landscape and Nature

The Řetová mountain is located in the vicinity of Vračovice-Orlov. The Jarošov mountain lies in the wider regional area; the nearby surroundings also include the K Orlovu hill [Tisová u Vysokého Mýta] and the Na Dubině hill [Tisová u Vysokého Mýta].

Between Vračovice-Orlov and Zálší lies a system of ponds that is considered an important landscape feature and a breeding area for waterfowl.

The “Krajinou rybníků” cycling route runs along the marked cycle path 182 via Vračovice-Orlov. A distance of 7.7 km is given for the Sloupnice–Chotěšiny–Vračovice–Zálší section.
