Semanín combines a long ecclesiastical history with protected natural areas and a network of educational trails. The Church of St. Bartholomew, the historic bell tower, and the landscape to the south and west give the town a particularly diverse range of attractions.

History and Culture

The first documented mention of the Church of St. Bartholomew in Semanín dates back to 1350. Its present masonry form was created during a renovation in 1696 and has an early Baroque character. The church also houses the permanent exhibition “Semanínská renesance.”

The bell tower in Semanín is a defensive bell tower dating from the early 17th century. Its lower section is made of masonry, while the upper section is wooden. By prior telephone arrangement, the Municipality of Semanín organizes guided tours of the local bell tower.

Nature and Educational Trails

The forests surrounding Semanín to the south and west are mostly beech or mixed forests and are home to numerous protected plant and animal species. Na střelnici is one of the notable local areas in Semanín for protected plants and animals.

The Semanín network of educational trails includes Knajpoviště, a cold-water therapy station with hollowed-out tree trunks and flowing water. The Semanínská naučná stezka ČSOP educational trail can be completed on foot or by bicycle.

Pilgrimage

At the end of August, a pilgrimage Mass is held in Semanín in honor of Saint Bartholomew.
