History and Remembrance

West of Víska u Jevíčka, a memorial and forest cemetery for 143 prisoners are located in a forest. The memorial and forest cemetery are registered as an immovable cultural monument.

A wartime labour camp was established northwest of Víska u Jevíčka on the slope of the valley of the Arnoštovský Stream. The former camp was located on the road from Víska u Jevíčka, formerly Derflík, to Chornice. It initially housed civilian workers building the motorway; in spring 1940, Polish Jews were also brought there, followed after the attack on the Soviet Union by Soviet prisoners of war.

In 1942, 142 Soviet prisoners of war died of epidemic typhus in the former camp; they were buried in a special cemetery in Kalenky Forest. Since 7 October 1951, a memorial has commemorated the site where those who died in a typhus epidemic were buried. It was reconstructed in 2006 with financial support from the Pardubický kraj.

The “Pomník obětem 1. a 2. světové války” memorial lies in the wider regional surroundings of Víska u Jevíčka. The “Kaple Panny Marie”, “Kaple Panny Marie Lurdské” and “Kaple Božského srdce” chapels are also located in the vicinity of Víska u Jevíčka.

Transport

No railway line runs through Víska u Jevíčka. ČD Line No. 262 runs east of the village and has stops in Jevíčko, Biskupice u Jevíčka and Chornice.

There are no separate cycle paths or registered cycle routes in Víska u Jevíčka. Cyclists share the carriageways on the main road and local roads with the rest of the traffic.
