Vápenný Podol combines sacred history, traces of lime processing and paths through the municipality.

Culture and history

Construction of the Kostel sv. Václava church began in 1788 on the site of an earlier chapel; the church building was completed in 1790 and the tower in 1796. In 1892, an organ by the Prague-born organ builder Petr was installed in the gallery. The church also houses the Baroque painting “Klanění Tří králů” by Jan Onghers.

The Muzeum Retro Jolana is a private museum of Czech electrophone guitars and equipment and is considered the first private museum of its kind in the Czech Republic.

Dolní vápenka was established in 1873 in a sunken hollow on the right bank of the Podolský potok as a two-shaft lime kiln with external heating. Documentation for the reconstruction of the Dolní vápenka technical monument site has been prepared step by step since 2023.

The historic building of Lázně svatého Václava has been preserved in Vápenný Podol. Lázně svatého Václava operated until around 1940; the spring was destroyed by blasting during limestone extraction.

Paths through the area

The Horem dolem Podolem educational trail includes a stop at the Kostel sv. Václava church. Stará cesta offers views of the entire municipality of Vápenný Podol, its valley and the Prachovice horizon. Along Stará cesta, the lime-tree avenue was later granted the status of a state-protected avenue. A red-marked hiking route also runs through Vápenný Podol in a west–east direction.

The unstaffed BIS information centre in Vápenný Podol was placed near the church and the rock on the subject of the Palaeozoic.
