Úhřetice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Úhřetice combines a long local history with archaeological evidence and a location between two rivers. The first written reference dates back to 1392. Until 1586, Úhřetice remained associated with the Rychmburk estate. After 1586, Markéta Trčková z Lípy founded an extensive manor farm on the southeastern edge of the village; it also included the former Úhřetice château, which she had built for possible stays in Úhřetice.

History

The former Úhřetice château burned down in 1807 and was not rebuilt. It is located in an area that is not accessible to the public. In the centre of Úhřetice stands the Chapel of Saint Wenceslas, the only more prominent building.

Archaeology

Around the Tuněchody brickworks lies the “Tuněchody cihelna” archaeological area, classified as ÚAN I and recognised as a significant archaeological site. The area extends mainly south, southeast and east of the brickworks; Úhřetice is also among the listed cadastral areas. The Tuněchody brickworks was declared a cultural monument in 2000. The archaeological area is associated with the Silesian-Platěnice culture, the La Tène period, the Roman Imperial period, the transition from the Early to the High Middle Ages, the High Middle Ages and the Late Middle Ages.

Landscape and Setting

Úhřetice lies between the Novohradka and Chrudimka rivers: the municipality is situated on the left bank of the Novohradka and the right bank of the Chrudimka. Two ponds lie on the western edge of Úhřetice. Marked local cycle routes run through the village. The Chrudim–Holice railway line also runs along the southern edge of Úhřetice.

Traditions

Traditional events in Úhřetice include the burning of witch effigies, masked balls, the Feast of the Three Kings combined with a charitable fundraising event, and St Nicholas events.
