Sklené: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Sklené is located approximately 7 kilometres southeast of Svitavy at an elevation of 510 metres. The village’s character is defined by historic ecclesiastical buildings, enclosed agricultural farmsteads in the Empire style, and the “U Havlů” yew tree, which has been designated a natural monument.

History and Ecclesiastical Buildings

Sklené was first mentioned in written records in 1317; at that time, the village was recorded as part of the episcopal fiefdoms in the Svitavy Province. The Church of St Peter and Paul acquired its present Art Nouveau appearance during an extension and reconstruction carried out between 1912 and 1914.

A Baroque mortuary chapel dating from 1739 stands at the corner of the church cemetery. The church cemetery complex in Sklené also includes a Baroque gate.

The Baroque Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows was probably built sometime in the first half of the 18th century. Today, only the chapel’s enclosing walls remain. It stands beneath a lime tree approximately 1 kilometre south of the church, beside a field track.

Nature and Village Character

The “U Havlů” yew tree was designated a natural monument on 24 June 1998. Enclosed agricultural farmsteads in the Empire style have been preserved in Sklené.
