Culture and History

The Church of All Saints in Bělá nad Svitavou is a Baroque church built between 1751 and 1770. Its main altar is adorned with a painting by the artist Josef Scheivl. The church also contains a fresco from 1928 depicting Saint Elisabeth of Thuringia distributing bread to poor people. Near the entrance to the sacristy stands a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk dating from 1768, while a stone cross from 1811 stands in front of the Church of All Saints. The memorial to the victims of the First World War stands in a linden park near the Church of All Saints.

The traditional pilgrimage in Bělá nad Svitavou takes place every year on the third Sunday after Easter to mark the consecration of the Church of All Saints. In 2026, the pilgrimage included rides and other fairground attractions for children and adults. The town's memorial sites are also part of this historical picture: The mass grave in the cemetery of Bělá nad Svitavou contains the remains of 42 Jewish people who died during transport from Poland to Schindler's factory in Brněnec. The local cemetery of Bělá nad Svitavou also contains the grave of paratrooper Ivan Banděrev. A statue of Our Lady of Sorrows was transferred from Podlesí to the church in Německá Bělá.

Nature and Trails

Cycle Route 4201 passes through Hradec nad Svitavou, Banín, Bělá nad Svitavou and Bohuňov. A notable natural feature is Čertova díra: The cave is a 115-metre-long and 12-metre-deep pseudokarst fissure cave in chalk marlstones of the Jizera Formation and is one of the longest caves of its kind in the Czech Republic formed in chalk rock.

One of the three entrances to Čertova díra Cave is located in a rock face shaped by quarrying, approximately 40 metres above the valley floor of the Bělský stream valley.
