Útěchov: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Slavic settlement has been documented on the hill known today as Hrádek between Útěchov and Dlouhá Loučka. Toward the end of this period, during the reign of Břetislav, a hillfort was built there.

Landscape

Útěchov lies 2 km south of Moravská Třebová in a valley running from south to north, through which the Třebůvka flows. This watercourse flowing through Útěchov is usually a quiet stream in summer, but during the spring snowmelt or severe storms it can turn into a raging torrent.

The eastern side of Útěchov is shaped by the west-facing slope of Kamenná hora, whose highest point reaches 577 metres. The Kamenné hory mountain range dates from the Cretaceous period and consists of sandstone and marl. The western spur of the Kamenné hory range, known as Kouzelná hora, is also called “Ošatková hora” by local residents because of its distinctive shape.

The western side of Útěchov consists of a rolling landscape called Ovčiny, formerly known as Ovčácké údolí, which is geologically assigned to the Permian period.

History and Culture

The fortifications at Hrádek were rebuilt; trenches were dug and new ramparts, as well as the castle core and the outer bailey, were raised. At the southern edge of Útěchov, traces in the terrain of trenches and ramparts mark the site of a former water fortress, which archaeological finds date to the turn of the 14th century from the 13th.

The oldest building in Útěchov is the former feudal estate, once the seat of the vassals of the Moravská Třebová estate. The Útěchov belfry is currently in a dilapidated condition and is not used for ringing.

When the Třebůvka was regulated in Útěchov in 1935, five bridges and three footbridges had to be built. Historically, a feast known as the “pig dance”, featuring jitrnice, barley soup, sausages and meat, was part of Shrovetide in Útěchov.

Among the finds from the Útěchov cadastral area is an elongated stone tool for grinding from the Neolithic period, which is kept in the museum in Moravská Třebová.
