Horní Újezd: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Pivní studánka in Podlubníček has been a unique tradition and a popular meeting place for locals and visitors from near and far for more than four decades. At the Pivní studánka, a beer keg is immersed in spring water to cool the beverage; a voluntary contribution for the beer is paid into a collection box.

Nature

Jeskyně u Horního Újezda is a European Site of Community Importance within the Natura 2000 network, with the code CZ0533688. It is one of the most important wintering sites for the lesser horseshoe bat (Rhinolophus hipposideros) in eastern Bohemia; in recent years, 350–400 animals have been counted there. Entering Jeskyně u Horního Újezda can disturb hibernating bats.

Culture and History

In the Cikov district, the “Fialový pramen” spring has a landscaped pond and a statue of Our Lady of Lourdes dating from 1893.

The Ležákův mlýn mill in the Cikov district is associated with the miller Lukáš Pakosta; there is a commemorative plaque at the mill. The mill is being preserved in its original form by its current owner.

At the “U Černého mlýna” sandstone cross stands a Calvary group dating from 1830. The Chapel of the Finding of the Holy Cross dates from 1894. A stone monolith with a commemorative plaque commemorates the local legionnaire Jan Švec.

In 1680, Horní Újezd was a focal point of the peasant uprising in the Litomyšl region.
