Mrákotín: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Mrákotín lies in a gentle valley between Hlinsko and Skuteč. The Mrákotínský Stream flows through the village and rises in the Ranský Forests. Southwest of Mrákotín, the geological site consists of several outcrops in wooded areas and fields, in the section between the municipality and the telecommunications transmitter.

Nature and Geology

The Mrákotín geological site lies in the eastern part of the Železné hory National Geopark. It features small rock outcrops and abundant rock debris in rocks of the so-called Mrákotín Formation of the Hlinecko Zone. The graptolite fauna at the site enables precise dating to the Silurian, more specifically the Llandovery. The site can be reached by car without restriction; there is no driving ban, and access is within 250 metres.

History and Culture

The first surviving written mention of Mrákotín dates from 1456. The “Renewed Book of the Mrákotín Bailiff’s Office”, also known as the “gruntovnice”, preserved in the State Archives in Zámrsk, bears the date 1695. As part of the Železné hory – GVO project, two information panels were installed in the village square in the centre of Mrákotín.

The Chapel of Saint Isidore is dedicated to Saint Isidore of Madrid, the patron saint of farmers and a good harvest. The Mrákotín bell tower was renovated in 2006, and the Chapel of Saint Isidore was solemnly consecrated on 20 September 2014. From Mrákotín, it can be reached in the direction of Oldřetice and then via a field path.

Events

The “Country Day” is being held for the fifth time at the sports ground in Mrákotín. The “Country Day” in Mrákotín featured an extensive programme of music, dancing and competitions for children and adults.
