The name Holotín means “Holota’s farm”; the surname Holota derives from an Old Czech word for a keeper of hunting dogs. The first documented mention of Holotín dates from 1405.

Road connections link Holotín with Heřmanův Městec, Chrudim, Přelouč and Pardubice. Holotín has no pavements or separate cycle paths; cyclists share the carriageways and local roads with other vehicles. Holotín has a small children’s playground.
