Dřevíkov combines Jewish history, rural architectural heritage and marked trails through the wider surrounding region. The past is particularly vividly presented in the log cabins of Veselý Kopec, where the homes and livelihoods of small farmers from the mid-19th to the mid-20th century are depicted. The attractions also include unique technical monuments powered by water power.

Culture

The former Židovská ulička is home to a former Jewish school, a log-built cottage at house number 47 and a small potash works. Židovská Street itself has also been preserved in Dřevíkov. There, the Jewish community built a synagogue, baths and its own school.

Jewish residents rebuilt the centre of Dřevíkov with interconnected, multi-storey masonry buildings. This urban development contrasts with the picturesque wooden log house, the only one to have survived from the period before the great fire.

The Jewish cemetery of Dřevíkov was probably established in the mid-18th century. It is listed as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic and contains around 300 Baroque and Neoclassical gravestones, also known as macewot.

Village and Open-Air Museum

The present-day copy of Dřevíkov’s historic rural bell tower has stood in the village square since 1976. Another bell tower is located at the village bus stop.

For Veselý Kopec, the municipality of Vysočina operates a car and bus park. It is located 250 metres from the open-air museum.

Trails

The Kavánova stezka can be extended via Dřevíkov to Svobodné Hamry or Trhová Kamenice. It is recommended as a one-way route and is not a circular trail.

A longer route is provided by the Vlastivědná stezka Krajem Chrudimky. It begins at the source of the Chrudimka at Filipovský and ends in Chrudim. It is 82 kilometres long in total and has 31 information boards.
