Chotovice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Chotovice is best explored at the Kostel sv. Prokopa: located at an altitude of 480 metres, the church has been a protected cultural monument since May 1958 and offers views over the Litomyšl Basin and the Eagle Mountains; in favourable weather, Sněžka is also visible.

Culture and History

The Kostel sv. Prokopa is a branch church of the Roman Catholic parish of Nové Hrady u Skutče. In Chotovice, it is used for cultural events, including regular singing, music-making by children and young people, and nativity scene exhibitions.

The stone cross on “Hlavátky”, which dominates the centre of the village, was donated in 1890 by Václav Jůza, a former farm tenant from house no. 58. It was completely dismantled, cleaned and restored, and has returned to its former condition. The cemetery around the Kostel sv. Prokopa has an old-world character and is considered one of the most picturesque cemeteries in the Litomyšl region.

Nature and Trails

The Čapí naučná stezka educational trail in the Lesopark Franze Hantschela offers a walk through nature, where visitors can learn about the life of storks and the surrounding area. There are two viewpoints with seating near the Kostel sv. Prokopa.

The marked hiking route 0448 leads from Litomyšl to Budislav and passes through Chotovice. The route lists “Chotovice – kostel” at 14.3 km and “Chotovice – náves” at 14.6 km.

Events and Regional Cuisine

The municipality of Chotovice held the unconventional firefighting competition “O pohár obce Chotovice” through and including its fifth edition. The event included an unusual attack using an Avia vehicle, a classic firefighting attack over 80 metres, and races in tubs.

At the traditional “Rožnění prasátka”, three pork legs were roasted on a spit.
