The Hvozdnice Nature Reserve is located in the cadastral areas of Slavkov, Štáblovice and Uhlířov. In the northern part of the Uhlířov cadastral area, the forests border this protected area – a defining connection between village, forest and protected landscape.
Nature and Trails
The protection regulations for the Hvozdnice Nature Reserve came into force on 1 January 1989. Uhlířov’s water network includes the pond system consisting of Přední and Zadní, which are connected by the Uhlířovský potok stream. The stream flows into the Hvozdnice River.
The Hvozdnice educational trail can be reached from Uhlířov and is suitable for pedestrians and cyclists. The surroundings of Uhlířov are suitable for walks in nature all year round. The mixed forests around Uhlířov also offer opportunities for collecting mushrooms and wild berries.
History and Village Character
The first surviving written mention of Uhlířov dates from 1389; at that time, the village was a fief of the Bishopric of Olomouc in the so-called Keřkov district. Uhlířov probably originated as a settlement of Slavkov. The name of the village is also probably derived from charcoal burners who produced charcoal there.
The first school building in Uhlířov was constructed in 1861. In 1883, an independent one-class school was officially established there; František Miroslav Juchelka was its first teacher.
The Chapel of Saint Anthony of Padua in Uhlířov was built in 1871. The war memorial on the village green stands on the site of the former chapel and commemorates residents who died in concentration camps and during the battles for liberation.
Traditions
Traditional local events in Uhlířov include “vodění medvěda” (the bear procession), felling the maypole, and Christmas and Easter folk customs.
Transport Connections
The Štáblovský mlýnek railway stop is located about 1 km from Uhlířov. Uhlířov is also connected to the district capital by scheduled buses.
