Culture and history

The Chapel of Saint Mary Magdalene in Štítina is a cultural monument. Its sacred architecture was designed in the spirit of the Renaissance on an octagonal ground plan. Masses are still celebrated there on 22 July, the feast day of its patron saint.

The underground remains of the Gothic fortress of Štítina, which was later converted into a four-winged Renaissance manor house, are considered valuable evidence of a significant medieval aristocratic residence in the Opava region. The above-ground part was demolished in 1988.

The memorial to Private Ivan Kubinec is listed among the cultural monuments. It commemorates a soldier of the 1st Czechoslovak Armoured Brigade who was tortured to death on 18 April 1945 during the liberation of Štítina.

Events and cycling routes

The Memoriál Ivana Kubince volleyball tournament has been held at the beginning of May every year since 1966. Since 2002, the municipality of Štítina has organised the regional showcase of rural amateur theatre groups, Štivadlo; ŠAMU is its main organiser. “Před sušedovym zeleny ořech” is described as a folk spring showcase.

The signposted cycling route 6055 runs through Branka u Opavy, Raduň, Nové Sedlice, Štítina, Kravaře and Kobeřice. In Štítina, the signposted Radegast Opava cycling tourism route runs along Hlavní and Palackého Streets.

Geographical location and railway line

Štítina lies in the foothills of the Nízký Jeseník. Štítina railway station is located on line 316 between Opava and Ostrava.
