Melč: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Melč Chateau and its park are listed as a protected cultural monument. Its core dates from around the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries, and the chateau also has a mansard roof. Melč Chateau includes an English park and an enclosing wall. A state-protected nature park with numerous rare trees and shrubs stretches around the chateau. The Melčský potok stream flows through Melč and empties into the Moravice River.

Culture and History

The Church of Saint Anthony of Padua is also part of the historical character of the village. It was remodelled in the Neo-Gothic style and built in 1889–1890 according to plans by A. Bartel and the architect J. M. Olbrich. Melč therefore features various architectural testimonies side by side: the chateau with its historic core, mansard roof, park and enclosing wall, as well as the Neo-Gothic remodelled Church of Saint Anthony of Padua.

Pilgrimage and Trails

Maria Talhof is located approximately 1 km from Melč. The pilgrimage site can be reached from the municipality via a yellow-marked hiking trail. The Maria Talhof pilgrimage site includes a wooden cross and a Lourdes grotto built from stones. On 14 September 1996, Maria Talhof was restored with a cross, an altar and a renewed Stations of the Cross. Pilgrimages to the Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary and the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross are held regularly in Maria Talhof.

The yellow-marked hiking trail from Maria Talhof leads to Melč; from there, hikers can return to Vítkov by bus. Thus, the connection between the pilgrimage site and the village includes both the marked trail and the stated option of returning to Vítkov.

Nature and Landscape

Mokřinky is now used primarily as a recreational area. Abandoned adits and shafts in Mokřinky provide shelter for protected animals. The bat habitats in the mines of Mokřinky are among the largest in the Czech Republic. The Dědictví břidlice educational trail is also connected with this: it begins in Mokřinky and focuses on shale mining in the Vítkovsko area.

Community and Traditions
