Kružberk: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Situated between the Moravice River, the reservoir, distinctive rock formations and historic churches, Kružberk reveals several facets at once. The village combines a long ecclesiastical history with a waterside landscape, climbing areas, signposted trails and traces of a medieval castle. The Moravice Cycle Route No. 551 and the Čermákova naučná stezka educational trail also connect directly to the village.

Culture

At the southern edge of Kružberk, near the bridge over the Moravice, stands the Church of St Peter and Paul. The small church, with a late Gothic character and vernacular features, dates from the first half of the 14th century. It is a state-protected cultural monument and is one of the oldest churches in Silesia. Its furnishings include an organ from 1808, known in Silesia for having the largest number of preserved original components.

Another trace of the area’s ecclesiastical history is the Church of St Florian. It has a Stations of the Cross with 14 pictures from 1883. The building was erected in 1812 by the master builder Antonín Englisch on the site of a church approximately 100 years older, which had already become too small. Thus, different periods and architectural expressions stand side by side in Kružberk, without the history of the village being confined to a single building.

Nature

The Kružberská přehrada is a reservoir on the Moravice River. It was built from 1948 to 1955 as the first reservoir in the Oder basin. Its importance also extends into cultural history: the Kružberská přehrada and its immediate surroundings served as filming locations in 1985 for the nine-part television series Velké sedlo.

In the Moravice Nature Park, below the Kružberská přehrada, the river forms a deep canyon between Dolní Moravice and Branka u Opavy. The Moravice is navigable by watercraft for approximately 100 kilometres, but only when water is released under controlled conditions from the Kružberská přehrada. The river, reservoir and wider nature park area are therefore defining geographical features around Kružberk.

Outdoor Activities

The Kružberské cvičné skály offer climbing routes on walls, in chimneys, cracks and gullies, with lengths of up to 50 metres. The area consists of three main sections: Žabí kůň, Hlavní masiv and Rozlámaná. From Kružberk, the rocks can be reached via a red-marked hiking trail approximately one kilometre long in the direction of the reservoir.

The Čermákova naučná stezka educational trail also brings together various traces of the landscape and its history. The trail is 5.2 kilometres long and includes eight stops devoted to nature, historic monuments and important personalities of the region. Its route follows the riverbanks, passes the Kružberské cvičné skály and the dam of the Kružberská přehrada, and leads past an animal enclosure.

For longer distances, the clearly designated Moravice Cycle Route No. 551 is a suitable option. It leads from Kružberk via Hradec nad Moravicí to Opava and is approximately 44 kilometres long. Most of the route runs along Class III roads as well as paved or unpaved forest roads.

Historical Traces

The ruins of Radisko-Kružberk Castle lie in a forest approximately 1.2 kilometres southwest of Kružberk town centre and about 400 metres east of the dam of the Kružberská přehrada. The site is located on a distinctive rocky edge above the left bank of the Moravice. The castle served a watch function over a trade route and presumably fell into disrepair during later internal unrest and the Hussite Wars. Its location thus connects a specific landscape feature with the medieval history of the village.
