Landscape and Village Character

Chlebičov lies in a valley depression formed by the Chlebičov Stream in the hilly Hlučín Hills. This location describes the village centre just as precisely as the distinctive traces visible in the villagescape. The Chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary dates from 1895 and shapes the villagescape. Nearby there is a glacial erratic regarded as a remnant of a massive northern glacier from the Ice Age.

Traces of History

The history of the village goes back a long way: archaeological finds show that the area of Chlebičov was already settled in the Bronze Age, around 1800 BC. The first written mention of Chlebičov dates from 1250. Thus, two different historical reference points stand side by side – the early settlement documented by finds and the medieval mention through which Chlebičov appears in written records.

Leisure in the Park and by the Water

Chlebičov Park offers green spaces as well as play and exercise facilities for visitors’ leisure activities. The park also includes a circular inline skating track; there is also a place to rest there. The circular track and the opportunity to take a break are therefore located in the same area of the park.

Chlebičov swimming pool is also one of the specific leisure facilities in the area and has a beach volleyball court. The village therefore has both park areas with play and exercise facilities and a swimming pool with a designated sporting opportunity.

Cycling and Pilgrimage Routes

A cycling route towards Svoboda has a renewed surface and is suitable for cycling, inline skating and walking. The route is described equally for all three forms of travel. Chlebičov also lies on the 276.5 km-long Moravian-Silesian Route of the Way of St. James. It leads from Poland to Austria via Opava and Hradec nad Moravicí to Olomouc, continuing to Brno and Mikulov. You can get a stamp at the municipal administration office during office hours or by telephone appointment.

Another connection is the Czech section of Cycling Route No. 552 from Opava to Racibórz. This section is 14.00 km long and runs from Opava via Chlebičov, Svoboda and Kobeřice to the Strahovice/Krzanowice border crossing. It is considered the shortest cycling connection between the partner towns of Opava and Racibórz and runs away from roads used by motor vehicles.

Events in Village Life

The local events calendar includes Dny obce Chlebičov, a recurring village festival. It takes place on 15 and 16 August; an edition documented for 2019 was the fourth. The traditional gardeners’ evening is another regular event: the gardeners of Chlebičov hold it on 29 August from 4 p.m. The evening includes judging for the competition “The Most Beautifully Flowering Home”.
