Dolní Benešov: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Dolní Benešov combines a multifaceted history of its chateau with ponds, protected landscapes and regional events. Dolní Benešov Chateau, Nezmar Pond, the nature reserves and several ecclesiastical buildings shape different sides of the town. The Immaculata statue is also part of the townscape: it is a copy of a late-Baroque statue whose original dates from the 1780s. Thus, historic buildings, religious art and water-shaped landscapes stand side by side in the townscape.

Culture

Dolní Benešov Chateau is listed as a protected cultural monument under registration number ÚSKP 24181/8-1357. At the same time, it is an example of chateau architecture from several stylistic periods; its core dates from the 16th century. The chateau also retains a portal with a coat of arms dated 1498. Thus, different historical layers stand side by side in a single building, discernible in its structure and details.

An English landscape park is located at the chateau and was laid out around the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. It covers 1.7 hectares and surrounds the chateau buildings on all sides. The Church of Saint Martin in Dolní Benešov is another protected cultural monument. It was probably built as early as around 1678. The sacred character of the area is complemented by the Chapel of the Holy Cross: the longitudinal Neo-Gothic chapel has a stepped gable and was built in the 1870s from unrendered exposed brickwork, typical of the Historicist architecture of the Hlučínsko region.

An annual cultural event is the “Hudební jaro na Hlučínsku” music festival, which takes place in Dolní Benešov.

Landscape and Nature

At Nezmar Pond, a 3.6 km circular trail follows the shore and offers views of the town and the church. The traditional fish harvest at the pond takes place annually on the first weekend of November. There is also a small facility for recreational sailing at Nezmar Pond. The circular trail, fish harvest and sailing facility all relate to the same pond, but each has a different focus.

The landscape extends beyond the immediate pond area. The Koutské a Zábřežské louky Nature Reserve extends across the cadastral areas of Dolní Benešov, Kravaře ve Slezsku and Zábřeh u Hlučína. It comprises wet meadows, scattered woodland and floodplain forests, as well as remnants of former river channels and periodically flooded pools in the Opava floodplain. The area around Přehyně Pond is one of the two protected natural areas of Dolní Benešov. Another distinctive landscape feature is the unique system of centuries-old flood protection embankments that runs through the landscape of Dolní Benešov.
