Rudná Pod Pradědem: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Rudná pod Pradědem lies in the foothills of the Jeseníky Mountains and is connected with the main tourism, recreation and ski centres in the vicinity of Praděd. The two parts of the municipality have different characteristics: Nová Rudná is exclusively focused on recreation, while Stará Rudná has the character of a rural settlement with a pronounced residential and commercial-agricultural function.

Nature

The northern and western parts of Nová Rudná lie within the Jeseníky Protected Landscape Area. Numerous protected plant and animal species occur in this protected landscape area, including critically endangered species. Original sycamore-beech stands grow on the slopes of the 782-metre-high elevation.

History

The founding of the village was preceded by the discovery of gold in the Černý potok stream and the establishment of a gold-washing site. The popular name “hornický výval” for the oldest part of the settlement on the Černý potok is evidence of early mining activity. Gold was mined in Stará Rudná from 1671 to 1742; the towns of Andělská Hora, Bruntál and Vrbno were involved in this activity.

Culture

The Church of Saint John the Baptist stands in Stará Rudná and is a distinctive landmark of the municipality of Rudná pod Pradědem. It dates from 1655; original wall paintings have been preserved inside. In the centre of Rudná pod Pradědem there is also a Baroque statue of Saint John of Nepomuk, made in 1744.

Activities

The Nová Rudná–Ranná cross-country skiing route is 2.3 km long and has 83 m of ascent and 14 m of descent. The equestrian event “Rudenská jarní všestrannost” is scheduled for 8 May 2026 at JK Amír in Rudná pod Pradědem.
