Horní Životice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Nízký Jeseník landscape region extends across the area of Horní Životice. The municipality therefore brings together a distinctive landscape designation and a history dating back to the Middle Ages.

Culture and History

Horní Životice was first mentioned in 1265 as a possession of Velehrad Monastery. Mining has also left its mark: iron ore extraction began in the vicinity of Horní Životice in 1850 and was discontinued in 1904. Beneath the cemetery there is also a gallery dating from the 13th century, from the period of silver ore mining.

The filial Church of St Nicholas in Horní Životice dates from the second half of the 19th century. It is a filial church of the Roman Catholic parish of Svobodné Heřmanice. Another historical detail can be found in Františkov: the Františkov Windmill is listed as a windmill in Horní Životice. Of the two windmills that were still operational until 1947, only the remains of one windmill survive in Františkov today.

Landscape and Water

The Heřmanický potok flows through Horní Životice; the Životický rybník pond lies along its course in the southern part of the municipality. South of Horní Životice there is also a former slate quarry partially filled with water, which is used as a natural swimming area.

Cycling and Trails

Cycle route 6159 is 28 kilometres long. It connects Úvalno, Úblo, Lichnov, Sosnová, Horní Životice, Svobodné Heřmanice, Bratříkovice and Hlavnice. A local cycle route towards Krnov also passes through Horní Životice.

No marked hiking trail passes through Horní Životice.
