Životice U Nového Jičína: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Životice u Nového Jičína is located in the Pobeskydí Nature Park in the Moravian-Silesian Region. The first written mention of the village dates back to 1399. Here, a landscape within a nature park meets a local history stretching back over centuries.

Culture and History

The brick Church of St. John the Baptist was built in Životice u Nového Jičína in 1902. The original wooden Church of St. John dated from 1451 and burned down completely in 1898. A wooden altar from the church is dated to 1482 and is now located in the Moravian Gallery in Brno.

A remarkable historical find also came to light during excavations: in 1898, 92 Hungarian gold ducats from the 15th and 16th centuries were discovered in Životice u Nového Jičína. The restored rectory near the church provides accommodation for 33 guests.

Landscape and Trails

The Jičínka River flows through the valley of Životice u Nového Jičína. The landscape around the village is suitable for easy walks.

The “Koleje” cycle path runs from Nový Jičín to Hostašovice and passes through Životice u Nového Jičína at kilometre 1.7. The cycle path is easy, has only slight inclines, and is also suitable for families with children.

On the Nový Jičín–Mořkov–Hodslavice route, you can return to Nový Jičín via the František Palacký educational trail; the trail runs through Straník, Kojetín and Skalky.

Events and Local Traditions

The village day, “Den obce”, was regularly celebrated in Životice u Nového Jičína in August. At the traditional Children's Day on 4 June 2017, there was a fairy-tale meadow with entertaining tasks for children of different ages.

Traditionally, an open “smaženice” event for everyone was held in Životice u Nového Jičína on Whit Sunday.
