Dubá lies on the edge of the Kokořínsko–Máchův kraj Protected Landscape Area and is surrounded by a varied landscape of forests and gorges between sandstone rocks. At the same time, the town preserves notable evidence of its history – from the Sušárna chmele hop dryer to churches, a Baroque column and cellars carved into the rock.

Nature and Landscape

The Kokořínsko–Máchův kraj Protected Landscape Area combines forests, meadows, pastures, rare animal and plant species, cultural monuments and a unique landscape character. This provides suitable conditions for the development of tourism.

Culture and History

The townscape of Dubá is dominated by a church. Kostel Nalezení svatého Kříže in Dubá is a protected architectural monument dating from the 18th century. Construction work lasted from 1744 to 1760; the church has a uniform Rococo interior dating from around 1755, created in the workshops of František Adámek and Jan Chládek.

Dubá’s square is home to the Baroque column Sloup Nejsvětější Trojice. It was erected in 1726 to commemorate a plague epidemic and a town fire, and bears a sculptural ensemble of the Holy Trinity and the Virgin Mary.

The Sušárna chmele hop dryer in Dubá is a technical monument of national importance. At the height of hop cultivation, six such hop dryers were recorded in Dubá; the Sušárna chmele is the only one to have survived in its original condition. Following the renewal of the floors, the building can be safely used by visitors.

The Skalní sklípky, cellars carved into the rock, are also part of Dubá’s historic buildings. They are an integral part of this built heritage and document the creative use of the natural conditions.

Trails and Excursion Destinations

Masarykovo náměstí in Dubá is a starting point for excursions. The Hradská stezka begins here and leads past the Čap rock outcrop via Zámecký vrch and Dřevčice to Chudý hrádek, and then into the basin of the Holanské rybníky ponds.

The Prokopská spojka connects the Mlýnská stezka with Dubá via a well-known statue and the Sušárna chmele hop dryer.

An English park with numerous valuable trees and a swimming pool borders Nový Berštejn Castle.
