Zahrádky: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Peklo is a geologically valuable, gorge-like valley of the Robečský potok stream in sandstone. The complex of St. Barbara’s Church, including its walls, cemetery, bell tower, staircase, and statues, has been protected as a cultural monument since 1958.

Nature

Peklo provides a habitat for rare and endangered plant and animal species, including a large population of spring snowflakes. The Novozámecký rybník National Nature Reserve is associated with rare bird species and a unique drainage channel carved through the rocks. A birdwatching station and an observation footbridge were built at Novozámecký rybník in 2013. Novozámecký rybník was created during the time of Charles IV.

Culture and History

St. Barbara’s Church is the only remaining part of the village of Mnichov, which was destroyed during the Thirty Years’ War. Zahrádky Château burned down in January 2003. Zahrádky contains numerous examples of vernacular half-timbered architecture. A statue of Saint Starost from 1705 stands between Jestřebí and Zahrádky.

In the wider regional surroundings of Zahrádky are Kaple Nejsvětější Trojice, a church, and Theresienstadt concentration camp and ghetto, a historic site.

Landscape

Zahrádky lies along several hiking and cycling trails. Kozel, Špičák, Ronov, and Čiř are mountains in the surroundings of Zahrádky. Starý Berštejn is a ruin in the surroundings of Zahrádky.
