The so-called Lower Chateau of Velký Valtinov is considered, in a nationwide Czech comparison, one of the most valuable complexes among the smaller aristocratic residences. The complex is located in the southern part of Velký Valtinov, on a raised terrace above the Panenský potok.
History
The construction of Tlustec Fortress has been dated to the second half of the 14th century. After the fortress lost its original function, it was converted into a granary in the 18th century. A small manor house was built in Horní Valtinov in 1578.
The Church of Saint John of Nepomuk was built on the road to the chateau in 1729. The octagonal Baroque building features sandstone windows and a sandstone portal bearing the coat of arms of the Pachta von Rájov family. During restoration in 1997, a rare illusionistic altarpiece was discovered. In front of the church there is also a Calvary group consisting of five statues of saints.
Following the fire of 1983, the Lower Chateau of Velký Valtinov is in a dilapidated condition and is not open to the public.
Things to Do
The 30 km circular route Okolo Tlusce passes through Velký Valtinov. A green-marked KČT hiking trail also passes through the village.
