Blatce: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Houska Castle, accessible from Blatce, is a Renaissance chateau with elements of a Gothic castle. Its original Gothic castle chapel features wall paintings dating from the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries. Today, it hosts cultural events with fairs, fencers, dancing, crafts, singing, and music; the castle also offers seasonal and permanent exhibitions. Dantovo Peklo is located outside the main tour route of Houska Castle, accessible from Blatce, and is visited separately. In 1999, the castle was opened to the general public for the first time in its long history.

History and Architectural Heritage

The ruins of the Church of the Holy Trinity in Blatce preserve fragments of the ashlar masonry of a church founded in 1600. After its demolition in 1830, the fragments were scattered throughout the surrounding area.

The longitudinally oriented log house in Blatce features decorative carpentry details that are particularly prominent on the long veranda and the carved support structure; it probably dates from the 19th century.

Routes

The castle is about 700 metres from the car park; from there, a comfortable ten-minute walk leads to the castle gate. Two roads lead to Houska Castle: one from Blatce or Tubož and one from Kruh.

Nature

Prameny Pšovky is a small wetland complex near the springs of the Pšovka and is home to unique invertebrate fauna.
