Bukwa: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The landscape around Bukovany is undergoing change. In the vicinity of Bukovany, the former Libík–Medard open-pit mine is being reclaimed. A secondary heathland area developed on the southern edge of the Medard open-pit mine and was colonised by many rare plant species.

Landscape

There is a viewpoint on the northern edge of Bukovany from which the development of the landscape can be observed. The viewpoint was not accessible by car; parking was possible at the cemetery, and the rest of the way had to be covered on foot.

History

Bukovany was first mentioned in writing in 1304. The historical livelihoods of Bukovany were agriculture and hop cultivation. A special reddish hop variety was historically grown in Bukovany, whose quality was comparable to Saaz hops.

Coal mining in the vicinity of Bukovany began in the mid-19th century. Historically, iron ore was mined in the vicinity of Bukovany and supplied to ironworks in the Ore Mountains. As the mining fronts of the Gustav II and Gustav III open-pit mines advanced, old Bukovany was destroyed; Kytlice and Dvory also disappeared.

Cycling Route and Former Railway Line

On the Mostov–Loket section of National Cycle Route No. 6, the recommended approach leads from Dasnice along the road towards Bukovany; at the end of the village, turn right. On a former railway access track towards Medard, you can cycle by mountain bike as far as Medard.
