Culture and History

The first written mention of Vlčkovice is found in a 1415 purchase agreement between Jan Městecký z Opočna and Žofie, the widow of Jan Rothstein z Rothze. It states that the village was established in 1410. In 1778, the Prussian King Frederick II (Bedřich II) set up his headquarters in Vlčkovice. Several mass graves of Prussian soldiers are located in Vlčkovice.

The Church of St. Joseph is a simple rural sacred building typical of the mid-19th century. In reduced elements such as the windows and entrance portal, it draws on forms of late Neoclassicism. The single-nave building has a tower on the western façade, lacks a pronounced presbytery, and has a polygonal apse. The main altar features a painting of Saint Joseph with the infant Jesus by the painter Lorenz from Kuks.

The forge at Horní Vlčkovice No. 21 is listed as a protected cultural monument. It has vaulted ceilings and a horseshoe shed with carved wooden columns on the front.

Walking and Sports

Cycle route No. 4098 runs through Vlčkovice. A blue-marked hiking trail also passes through the village. The nearby Hospital Kuks can be reached on foot or by bicycle via the blue trail in the direction of Kuks.

The enclosed multi-purpose sports field in Vlčkovice is available for tennis, foot tennis, and volleyball; it also includes a table tennis facility.
