Tyniste Nad Orlici: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Týniště nad Orlicí is surrounded by pine forests and is often referred to as “Město v lesích” (“Town in the Forests”). Forest landscapes, historic buildings, protected natural areas and trails are among the facets of the town.

Getting Around

The Město v lesích educational trail has 20 stops. QR codes are placed along the route at significant locations, providing access to information on the website. The Město v lesích route is described as an 11-kilometre walk lasting three hours, with an elevation difference of 22 metres. It is suitable for cyclists and prams and runs on easy, level asphalt terrain.

The Městská naučná stezka was created in 2014 and connects interesting places in the centre of Týniště nad Orlicí and its immediate surroundings. The observation platform of the Vodárenská věž offers another view of the surrounding area; in good visibility, mountain peaks can be seen on the horizon.

Culture and History

The Vodárenská věž serves as a seasonal museum and gallery. Its interior is arranged for exhibitions and small-scale cultural events. The tower was built from 1925 to 1928, including the municipal water supply system and the installation of clocks.

The first written mention of the Kostel sv. Mikuláše church dates from 1361. In 1842 and 1843, it was remodelled approximately into its present form; its tower was raised by one storey in 1940.

The Jaroslav Dostál Gallery opened on 13 November 2013 and houses more than 200 paintings by the local painter Jaroslav Dostál and other regional artists of the 20th century. The gallery can be visited by prior arrangement. The Virtuální muzeum presents the history of Týniště nad Orlicí through loaned objects, photographs, postcards and items from its own collecting activities.

The history of the railway is also part of the town’s development: in the 19th century, Týniště nad Orlicí became an important railway junction, with the connections from Prague to Hanušovice built in 1874 and the line from Choceň to Meziměstí built in 1875.

Nature and Landscape

The Týnišťské Poorličí area encompasses the entire area of former game reserves between Třebechovice pod Orebem and Týniště nad Orlicí. It is characterised by mixed forests, ponds and old oak plantings on embankments and along paths. The occurrence of the hermit beetle Osmoderma eremita there is particularly associated with centuries-old hollow oaks.

U Glorietu is a protected forest of pine and oak that overlaps with a European protected area for the protection of the hermit beetle. Týnišťská borovice is a genetically distinct local type of Scots pine.

U Houkvice protects rare marsh vegetation on the gravelly-sandy terraces of Podorlicko, as well as the aquatic vegetation of a system of oligomesotrophic ponds. Old oaks there are also protected because they host a regionally particularly large number of relict and bioindicatively significant tree-dwelling insect species.

Kemp Písák offers natural bathing in the waters of a natural sand lake.
