Liberk: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

With the wooden Church of St. Peter and Paul, Liberk possesses a unique testimony to folk art. The church ensemble includes a tiered wooden bell tower and a log-built rectory. The church has a Baroque interior with coffered ceilings; the interior contains paintings on wood.

Culture

Commentated tours of the Church of St. Peter and Paul are possible by prior arrangement. The church has no regular opening hours; tours must therefore be arranged in advance. Public events are regularly held in the church. The entire church ensemble has been a national cultural monument since 2014.

Liberk is associated with the local sculptor Filip Jakub Prokop, who was born in Liberk in 1740. A commemorative plaque dedicated to Filip Jakub Prokop is attached to the local daycare centre. St. Peter and Paul also preserves wooden statues of Saint Wenceslaus and Saint John of Nepomuk created by Filip Jakub Prokop.

History

The skeletal figure of Liberk is explained by two local legends. One Liberk legend tells that a cruel burgrave was buried in an old crypt in front of the church altar. Hrad Liberk is an important archaeological site.

Townscape and Places of Worship

The Church of Saint John of Nepomuk in Liberk is a small rural church with a wooden bell tower and was built between 1734 and 1736. Liberk also has a column with a statue of the Immaculate Virgin Mary, erected at the municipality’s expense in 1751.

The Ecce Homo statue in Liberk was probably created in Vienna in 1777 and is an early regional example of Classicist art of Viennese provenance. The statue of Our Lady of Wambierzyce also dates from 1777 and reflects the veneration of the Marian pilgrimage site of Wambierzyce in Kłodzko.

Fragments of a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk acquired at the municipality’s expense in 1777 have been preserved in Liberk; a remarkable view of the town can be seen on the front of the pedestal. A sandstone crucifix dating from 1834 stands at the entrance to Liberk’s church district. Liberk also has the masonry rural Chapel of the Coronation of the Virgin Mary, dating from around the middle of the 18th century.

A rural farmstead ensemble characteristic of the Rychnov region has also been preserved.

Landscape and Trails

The remains of Rychmberk Castle lie on a spur above the Liberský potok on the western edge of the municipality of Liberk. The core of Rychmberk was separated from the surrounding terrain by a neck ditch approximately 25 metres wide and around 6.5 metres deep. A well carved into the rock has been preserved in the former outer bailey. A clearly recognisable path along the southern slope of the hill still leads to Rychmberk Castle today.

A blue-marked hiking trail leads downhill from Liberk into the valley of the Liberský potok. The path from Liberk into the valley of the Liberský potok passes through quiet stretches of woodland and is accompanied by the babbling of a stream.
