Kounov: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The former Kounov Castle stood on a headland above the confluence of the Zlatý potok and Hlucký potok streams. Today, Kounov lies in the valley of these two streams and preserves several traditional wooden buildings from the 19th century.

Culture and History

The history of the village extends beyond individual buildings: Kounov traditionally had a local linen-weaving industry, and the village also has a history of iron ore mining. Several preserved wooden buildings from the 19th century add to this historic picture.

At Hluky Castle, the foundation of a defensive tower can be identified on a cone-shaped hill; nothing of the former palace remains today. The castle ruins lie above Hluky, a district of Kounov, about 300 metres along Road 309 in the direction of Deštné.

Routes in and around Kounov

Regional cycle route 4243 runs through the municipal area of Kounov from Skuhrov nad Bělou via Prázova Bouda and Šediviny-kostel to Plasnice-Úhor.

There are several differently designed connections for hiking. At the northwestern edge of the municipal area of Kounov runs the long green-marked KČT hiking trail from Dobruška via Bačetín and the Dědina valley to Dobřany and onwards to the castle ruins. At the southeastern edge of the municipal area, the medium-length green-marked KČT hiking trail leads from the Kounov-Šediviny-odb. Práz. Bouda stop past the Bažiny nature reserve and uphill to Prázova Bouda. Also at the northwestern edge of the municipal area runs the short green-marked KČT hiking trail from the church in Šediviny via Špičák to the Plasnice-Úhor signpost.

Bus route 264 runs between Dobruška, Bačetín, Kounov and Deštné v Orlických horách.
