History and Settlement Structure
Historically, Horní Staré Buky was one of three independent villages called Dolní Staré Buky, Prostřední Staré Buky and Horní Staré Buky. The three Staré Buky settlements extended for approximately five kilometres along both banks of the Starobucký potok.
The Starobucký potok
The Starobucký potok rises at the eastern edge of the municipality of Staré Buky and is 10.5 kilometres long. In the built-up area of Horní Staré Buky, it first receives a left-bank tributary and further downstream the Žďárský potok.
Culture and Surroundings
The building known as “Starobucké Hradčany” dates from the mid-1990s. “Starobucké Hradčany” is a state agricultural enterprise in Horních Starých Bukách and is regarded as a memorial to this period.
The Lázně Church is located in the surroundings of Horní Staré Buky. The wider regional area also includes Spalona Strażnica, a ruin, and Opactwo Cysterskie w Krzeszowie, a monastery.
Mountains and Traces of Paths
Jański Wierch is a mountain in the immediate vicinity of Horní Staré Buky. The mountains Kobyla Góra, Mrowiniec and Černá hora are located in the wider regional area.
A restored cross stands on a forest path between Střítěž and Horní Staré Buky, near Hainova Dvůr. An iron cross was restored; its upper stone section is heavily weathered.
