The Church of St. George in Dolní Branná is a registered cultural monument. It was rebuilt between 1857 and 1860 in the pseudo-Romanesque style, replacing an original wooden Gothic church from the 14th century. The church contains a bell cast in 1499, which is considered the second-oldest bell in the diocese.

Culture and History

The Ski Museum is located in Log Cabin No. 1, the oldest surviving historic building in Dolní Branná. The building was constructed in 1747 as a schoolhouse in the traditional late-Baroque vernacular style of the Krkonoše region. The Ski Museum offers guided tours; on other days, visits are possible by prior telephone appointment for a minimum of five visitors.

The chapel dedicated to Saint Joseph stands on a small hill beside the road from Dolní Branná to Vrchlabi. The exact year of its construction is unknown; 1294 is often cited. The present building dates from the second half of the 19th century.

Villa No. 208 in Dolní Branná is a cultural monument. It was built around 1910 with elements of Art Nouveau ornamentation. Country House No. 179 in Dolní Branná is a single-storey log house built in the mid-19th century. It preserves its timber constructions and original floor plan; the two-storey gabled façade is richly decorated.

Landscape and Regional Context

Dolní Branná lies in the valley of the Sovinec stream, locally called Sovinka. The Klokočka stream also flows through the village and empties into the Sovinka.

The Stará Paka–Trutnov railway line runs through Dolní Branná.

The mountains Přední Žalý, Zadní Žalý, Tetřeví vrch and Strážník are located in the vicinity of Dolní Branná.

The Lázně Church is also located in the vicinity of Dolní Branná. The Spalona Strażnica ruins are located in the wider regional surroundings of Dolní Branná.

Activities and Regional Destinations

From Dolní Branná, excursions can be taken both to the Krkonoše Mountains and to Bohemian Paradise; the location is suitable for hiking, cycling and mushroom picking, as well as winter sports in winter.
