Stěžery: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Stěžery combines local history, paths through the landscape, and specific destinations for a variety of discoveries. In the village centre stands the Kostel sv. Marka church complex. It includes a free-standing bell tower built in the Moorish style, a cemetery, a statue of Saint Florian, and access to a castle cellar.

Culture and history

The protected Kostel sv. Marka monument complex comprises the church, the bell tower, the enclosing wall with a gate and wickets, the statue of Saint Florian, the cellar, and the grounds of the site. The Stěžery castle complex also preserves a distinctive testimony to its former use: a massive two-storey granary comes from the former farmyard.

The present-day castle was created in 1802–1803 by rebuilding and expanding the original fortress. A west wing was added in the process; both wings were given mansard roofs and an Empire appearance. In the wider regional surroundings of Stěžery, there is also the Svatý Jiří church.

Landscape and paths

The Potkávačka za humny route is a walk through the landscape around Stěžery. Along the route there is an insect hotel and a herb garden. There are also two benches and a swing near Stěžírky.

In the immediate surroundings of Stěžery are the named hills U Žižkova stolu [Všestary-Rosnice] and Kavkaz [Libčany]. The surrounding area also contains the named hills Dubina [Střezetice] and (Na příbytkách) [Všestary-Lípa].

Cycling and activities for children

The 28.1 km-long Proti proudu času cycling route begins and ends at the Stěžery municipal office. In 2021–2022, ZOOPARK Stěžery offered educational programmes to promote children’s interest in nature conservation, ecological awareness, and environmental education.

Beer culture

Pivovar Beránek in Stěžery brews bottom-fermented beers in the historic rooms of a former granary built in 1732. The brewery includes a restaurant where guests can stop for a meal and taste the beers directly on site.
